One of the hardest things in the world is to appreciate where you are right now. That’s not how society thinks nowadays- it’s not about where you are right now- it’s about the goals! It’s about the next big step, the next big move, the next level, the more exciting adventure, and the bigger and better options. We can spend…

The strongest leaders know when to fight and when to wait when challenged.
Leave a CommentThe young boy at the cash register looked annoyed but managed an angry and lackadaisical, “What do you want?” A room full of people sat nearby, trying not to lose their cool. This was one of my favorite places in town to get chicken. Usually. Today there was evidently not a manager on duty. And the four teens left in…
Leave a CommentI have been on the outskirts of several outreaches where churches banned certain music, discredited our current movie culture, or burned books. And I while I understand it entirely, I also find it impossible to live by. I think the main goal of each of these movements was to take something that was a clear idol in the culture and try to get Christians not fall under that same spell by avoiding it completely. In actuality, it just makes me unaware of the problems in the culture I live in, pushing away the glimpses of beauty and promise that are there, and avoiding the very people I was meant to serve and love.
Leave a CommentI remember one patient livid at me- exclaiming in spite of the awful pain she was having in her knee, there was no way she could take a break from running 25 miles every day! I just looked back at her in exasperation, not knowing what else to say. If our bodies are experts at breaking down the old, resting, and then rebuilding, why aren’t we?
1 CommentWe spend our whole lives trying our hardest not to fail at anything in our career, but never seem to put God on that same level of things that cannot be sacrificed. If we put off everything about our relationship with God until “one day”, we put off the very thing that gives us the ability to finish the rest of life.
1 CommentIn college I took an introductory Philosophy class with several hundred other students. Most students did not attend class regularly, but of course, everyone was there for the final which represented the majority of our grade and was rumored to be a very difficult exam. I walked into the room and literally felt like I hit a wall of nerves.…
3 CommentsI watched an incredible movie a few months ago called “Something the Lord made.” It’s based on a true story about these two men that research and create the surgery that now saves thousands of children’s lives every year. Basically, there are a lot of things that can go wrong with a babies heart as it is formed. Any holes…
Leave a CommentFar too often we aim for the glory. We fight, tooth and nail for the recognition, the win, the medal. But how much do we fight for the character it requires to get there?
1 CommentI totally get it. Because to be perfectly honest with you- people are just plain crazy sometimes. I seem to have a number of stories about things I did for someone else but they literally wrote me off for it- told me I was crazy, a bad friend, disinvited me to their wedding… craziness!
