Every time the Olympics are on I start thinking about Cool Runnings. Cool Runnings is one of my favorite movies of all time. If you haven’t ever seen it (and I really think you should), the movie is about the first Jamaican bobsled team in 1988. Three of the men on the team are Jamaican qualifying sprinters who don’t make…

The young boy at the cash register looked annoyed but managed an angry and lackadaisical, “What do you want?” A room full of people sat nearby, trying not to lose their cool. This was one of my favorite places in town to get chicken. Usually. Today there was evidently not a manager on duty. And the four teens left in…
Leave a CommentWhat is it about movies nowadays that have us actually routing for the bad guy? After watching the second movie with my friends, they both exclaimed that they had only watched the movie because of Loki. He didn’t make a last-minute switch from the deny to the accept list. He just accepted me- confused, broken, imperfect, and at times crazy obsessed, and loved me just like that, when I didn’t even like myself.

I understand the idea, of course- that when people are surrounded by a lot of temptation, it’s very easy to become someone different and make choices you wouldn’t have otherwise. But really, the statement…
Leave a CommentHomegrown is a unique album that is a combination of music and poetry that speaks to social justice and wrestling with issues in the culture that people are afraid to speak about. Janisha wanted to combine her roots as a person- a black, Christian woman growing up in St. Louis- coupled with issues in our generation that are far to often not discussed at all. “I wanted to give young black Christians a voice because they haven’t had one.”
2 CommentsFar too often as Christians we think our main goal in life is perfect church attendance. We miss the larger calling and ability of the mission God actually set out in the Bible. One thing I love to think about is our ability as people in the workplace to change the course of tide of life itself. This is introduced biblically as…
