So, if it wasn’t clear by now- I love the Avengers first movie. However, the second movie kind of annoyed me. If you don’t follow Marvel, here’s the gist of it- the Avengers are a group of superhuman people who have incredible abilities and the goal is that they could come together to fight the battles that humans cannot handle…

The second Iron Man movie continues with Tony Stark trying to get into a rhythm in life between his business and his expectations as Iron Man. He struggles with his health and his work and trying to keep it all together by himself. One of his main weaknesses is honestly his inability to trust anyone else when he needs help.…
Leave a CommentTragedies can make us think harder, dig deeper, work longer, reach farther, and refuse to stand for that which isn’t us at our best. But only if we don’t treat them as a thorn in our side.
Leave a CommentEvery time the Olympics are on I start thinking about Cool Runnings. Cool Runnings is one of my favorite movies of all time. If you haven’t ever seen it (and I really think you should), the movie is about the first Jamaican bobsled team in 1988. Three of the men on the team are Jamaican qualifying sprinters who don’t make…
Leave a CommentSeveral of my computer programs crashed recently, and I sat with a local businessman at Lemur Technology trying to figure out what I did wrong and how to go forward. Should I avoid certain websites, get a different antivirus, or something else? His recommendation was more general than specific action steps. Leave a CommentI was chosen by Christ- not waitlisted, not accidently added, not just a possibility, but whole-heartedly accepted and loved just as is. He didn’t have a list of specifications I had to perfectly complete. He didn’t have a blackmail policy- “you do this for me and I’ll think about it”. He didn’t make a last-minute switch from the deny to the accept list. He just accepted me- confused, broken, imperfect, and at times crazy obsessed, and loved me just like that, when I didn’t even like myself.
Leave a CommentHomegrown is a unique album that is a combination of music and poetry that speaks to social justice and wrestling with issues in the culture that people are afraid to speak about. Janisha wanted to combine her roots as a person- a black, Christian woman growing up in St. Louis- coupled with issues in our generation that are far to often not discussed at all. “I wanted to give young black Christians a voice because they haven’t had one.”
2 CommentsI was listening to a sermon a few weeks ago where a pastor said, “If we are being excellent Christians we will be excellent in our jobs in the workplace as well.” I think it’s a true statement except that we tend to put our own spin on that and make it into something it’s not meant to be. Because…
1 CommentI have been praying lately about what God wants me to do in order to advance my career. Do I need to spend more time investing money here, more time volunteering there, more time reading about this topic or that? God’s answer was I needed to love more. Love? Well, I don’t really know what that has to do with…
