What is it about movies nowadays that have us actually routing for the bad guy? After watching the second movie with my friends, they both exclaimed that they had only watched the movie because of Loki. I turned to them in complete surprise. “But, Loki is the bad guy, and not the main character, and you can’t trust anything he…

The majority of the movie is about whether or not Neo believes he is chosen, important, and special. And far too often, our lives come down to the same thing. Especially in our careers. What we believe is possible for our lives, for our career goals, for God’s ability to use us comes down almost entirely to what we believe about ourselves.
1 CommentI have been on the outskirts of several outreaches where churches banned certain music, discredited our current movie culture, or burned books. And I while I understand it entirely, I also find it impossible to live by. I think the main goal of each of these movements was to take something that was a clear idol in the culture and try to get Christians not fall under that same spell by avoiding it completely. In actuality, it just makes me unaware of the problems in the culture I live in, pushing away the glimpses of beauty and promise that are there, and avoiding the very people I was meant to serve and love.
Leave a CommentI was chosen by Christ- not waitlisted, not accidently added, not just a possibility, but whole-heartedly accepted and loved just as is. He didn’t have a list of specifications I had to perfectly complete. He didn’t have a blackmail policy- “you do this for me and I’ll think about it”. He didn’t make a last-minute switch from the deny to the accept list. He just accepted me- confused, broken, imperfect, and at times crazy obsessed, and loved me just like that, when I didn’t even like myself.
Leave a CommentObviously, the Wonder Woman bandwagon has been huge. I’ve seen post after post about how amazing the movie is, article after article about the plot, and heard discussion after discussion about the new Marvel phenomenon. I thought the movie was awesome, but I haven’t seen anyone else talk about my favorite part- or at least the part that hit home…

Leave a CommentFar too often as Christians we think our main goal in life is perfect church attendance. We miss the larger calling and ability of the mission God actually set out in the Bible. One thing I love to think about is our ability as people in the workplace to change the course of tide of life itself. This is introduced biblically as…
2 CommentsSorry to be such a downer. This movie has gotten a ton of press and awards over the last few weeks. And I totally agree with it- it’s got some great actors, memorable songs, incredible shots and directing, and a surprising plot. But the theme of this movie is actually quite depressing, and I find it hard to believe no one sees that.…
2 CommentsI love this scene from the movie The Santa Clause. Scott Calvin has just gotten to the North Pole after accidently filling in for Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. He is wandering around this incredible building filled with colorful toys, sweet elves, and amazing inventions. But in spite of what he can see right in front of him, he doesn’t actually…
Leave a CommentObviously, the entire movie Civil War was going to put Iron Man against Captain America in a truly epic battle of superhero favorites. But for me, when the actual scene came, it made me cringe. It’s terrifying what our anger can change us into.
