This song was possible written in the 9th century as a Latin hymn. I find it unbelievably astounding that this song has managed to dazzle and impress us for over 1000 years.

My eyes smarted and a deep anger rose up in me that I couldn’t totally understand. “We can’t do that! That’s not the point!” I blurted out in frustration. My coworker just stood there looking at me, visibly clenching his jaw shut. Instead of further discussing it, we took a break rather than pointlessly arguing. And the longer I worked…
Leave a CommentEvery time the Olympics are on I start thinking about Cool Runnings. Cool Runnings is one of my favorite movies of all time. If you haven’t ever seen it (and I really think you should), the movie is about the first Jamaican bobsled team in 1988. Three of the men on the team are Jamaican qualifying sprinters who don’t make…
Leave a CommentThe young boy at the cash register looked annoyed but managed an angry and lackadaisical, “What do you want?” A room full of people sat nearby, trying not to lose their cool. This was one of my favorite places in town to get chicken. Usually. Today there was evidently not a manager on duty. And the four teens left in…

2 CommentsThe majority of the movie is about whether or not Neo believes he is chosen, important, and special. And far too often, our lives come down to the same thing. Especially in our careers. What we believe is possible for our lives, for our career goals, for God’s ability to use us comes down almost entirely to what we believe about ourselves.
1 CommentSeveral of my computer programs crashed recently, and I sat with a local businessman at Lemur Technology trying to figure out what I did wrong and how to go forward. Should I avoid certain websites, get a different antivirus, or something else? His recommendation was more general than specific action steps. He said, “Treat your laptop like a vital commodity of your…
Leave a CommentI was chosen by Christ- not waitlisted, not accidently added, not just a possibility, but whole-heartedly accepted and loved just as is. He didn’t have a list of specifications I had to perfectly complete. He didn’t have a blackmail policy- “you do this for me and I’ll think about it”. He didn’t make a last-minute switch from the deny to the accept list. He just accepted me- confused, broken, imperfect, and at times crazy obsessed, and loved me just like that, when I didn’t even like myself.
Leave a CommentI spent several years planning medical missions trips around the world. On one of my trips, to India, we had only two providers, and saw hundreds of patients in a small town far away from our hosting church. It was a long day, with many difficult cases, hard circumstances, and what seemed like thousands of flies. I find, especially when…
Leave a CommentObviously, the Wonder Woman bandwagon has been huge. I’ve seen post after post about how amazing the movie is, article after article about the plot, and heard discussion after discussion about the new Marvel phenomenon. I thought the movie was awesome, but I haven’t seen anyone else talk about my favorite part- or at least the part that hit home…
