“Excuse me, do you have a minute to talk about what’s happened at Charlottesville?” I looked up from my book to see a young blond I didn’t know standing cautiously in front of my table at the coffee shop. “Umm, are you doing an interview or something?” “No, I just wanted to ask your opinion, if you don’t mind. I’d…

What does it look like to walk out our Christian faith at work?
This week we are talking about Hobby Lobby, highlighting some great tips from the book More than a Hobby. What is the key to being able to be an excellent Christian worker and treating your job as a way to glorify God? Here’s seven tips that Christian workers should keep in mind: 1. They don’t do things because everyone else does. Hobby…
Leave a CommentI was chosen by Christ- not waitlisted, not accidently added, not just a possibility, but whole-heartedly accepted and loved just as is. He didn’t have a list of specifications I had to perfectly complete. He didn’t have a blackmail policy- “you do this for me and I’ll think about it”. He didn’t make a last-minute switch from the deny to the accept list. He just accepted me- confused, broken, imperfect, and at times crazy obsessed, and loved me just like that, when I didn’t even like myself.
Leave a CommentI spent several years planning medical missions trips around the world. On one of my trips, to India, we had only two providers, and saw hundreds of patients in a small town far away from our hosting church. It was a long day, with many difficult cases, hard circumstances, and what seemed like thousands of flies. I find, especially when…
Leave a CommentObviously, the Wonder Woman bandwagon has been huge. I’ve seen post after post about how amazing the movie is, article after article about the plot, and heard discussion after discussion about the new Marvel phenomenon. I thought the movie was awesome, but I haven’t seen anyone else talk about my favorite part- or at least the part that hit home…
1 Comment“Oh, so you’re going to Vegas? Sin City!?! Well, be careful!!” I just smile and nod every time. But the statement makes me wonder at times. I understand the idea, of course- that when people are surrounded by a lot of temptation, it’s very easy to become someone different and make choices you wouldn’t have otherwise. But really, the statement…
Leave a CommentHomegrown is a unique album that is a combination of music and poetry that speaks to social justice and wrestling with issues in the culture that people are afraid to speak about. Janisha wanted to combine her roots as a person- a black, Christian woman growing up in St. Louis- coupled with issues in our generation that are far to often not discussed at all. “I wanted to give young black Christians a voice because they haven’t had one.”
2 CommentsI was listening to a sermon a few weeks ago where a pastor said, “If we are being excellent Christians we will be excellent in our jobs in the workplace as well.” I think it’s a true statement except that we tend to put our own spin on that and make it into something it’s not meant to be. Because…
1 CommentI have been praying lately about what God wants me to do in order to advance my career. Do I need to spend more time investing money here, more time volunteering there, more time reading about this topic or that? God’s answer was I needed to love more. Love? Well, I don’t really know what that has to do with…
